comes out, his father keeps hitting his mother until she stops moving, tears fill Wright’s

eyes, then he sees his father coming for him. Wright tries to run but he cannot move,

when his father gets to him he bends down and says, “I’m going to kill you just like that

bitch.” Wright closes his eyes and starts to cry but there is no sound. Out of nowhere he

hears a small child start to laugh, he opens his eyes and sees the room still little dark but

slightly lit enough to see that his father is no longer there.

Wright wiped the tears from his eyes and hears, “There you are we been looking for

you for the past three hours, we found Grace”. He turned to the nurse and said where is

she, to which the nurse responded she’s hanging in the utility closet. Wright ran to the

closet to see Grace, upon arrival there he saw her, eyes rolled to the back of her head

with her mouth wide open. He had the nurses cut her down, he then looked over her

and saw something sticking out of her mouth; upon investigation he found a feather.

He removed the feather from her mouth, when he touched it he felt the cold once again.

He dropped the feather, blinked a few times then looked down and the feather was

gone. Wright looked all around Grace’s body trying to find it but he could not, then he

found another in Grace’s hand and picked it up with a glove. The nurses were standing

around Wright and Grace’s body wondering how the feather appeared and when it

happened. When Wright was done looking over the body he looked at the nurses and

said that she had been dead for the past two days.

Wright asked the nurses when was the last time they saw her alive, one nurse said

about three days ago, Grace mainly keeps to herself in her room and rarely comes out to

eat. Wright looked at the feather then back at the body and knew he had to go back to

Grace’s room. He was afraid of what he might find in the room and even more afraid of

seeing the strange figures yet again. When they bagged the body Wright told them to be

careful with it, the medical examiner will want to closely examine the body. Wright

started to walk back to room 313 while Doctor White was making rounds, when Wright

told him about Grace Doctor White look shocked and said she was usually a very

happy person, when she was out of her room. Wright then told him about the drawings

in Grace’s room, to which Doctor White said she did not have any drawing in her room.

Wright looked puzzled at the doctor and told him, I was there I saw the writing on the

walls. The doctor simply shrugged, as if to brush off the conversation and told Wright,

“If you’ll excuse me I have to finish my rounds sometime tonight, I don’t have time for

fiery tales.” Wright was a little upset when the doctor made that remark, so now he was

determined to prove him wrong. Wright headed back to Grace’s room, when he got

there the door was wide open; as he entered the room, there was nothing on the walls it

was as if they were just freshly painted but he couldn’t smell anything that would

indicate that someone just did and he wasn’t gone long enough for someone to do so.

As he was about to leave the room he felt something like a rock hit him on the back of

the neck so he went to the window and saw a shadowy figure standing there then bolt

off into the darkness. Wright quickly ran out of the room, down the corridor, down the

stairs and out the front door. Wright then ran to the right side of the building when he

saw the shadowy figure trying to climb the fence, he ran towards it and forced him off

the fence. Wright pulled out his gun and demanded to know why he was there, shaking

the hooded person, he took off the hood and told Wright that he only wanted to see his

baby sister. Wright put away his gun and asked him who his sister was, to that the man

replied, “My sister’s name is Grace. She lived in that room but now I don’t know where

she is”, and as cold as the night Wright simply said, “She’s dead. She just committed

suicide about half an hour ago”. As the man broke down in tears Wright walked back to

the front of the building to finish his investigation. When Wright got to the front door

  he turned around and looked behind him, he saw a man in a trench coat and a top hat;

the man tipped his hat then turned around and vanished, Wright blinked his eyes a few

times and simply took it as a sign that he was too tired and needed to hurry up to get

home and sleep. As Wright stepped back into the building he saw everyone running

around, when he stopped one of the nurses to ask her what was going on she frantically

said that Nurse Peters was missing and they couldn’t find her anywhere. Wright then

asked where was the last place they saw her, the nurse told him that she was on the

third floor trying to calm the patents down after what happened to Grace. Wright ran

to the stairs then headed up, when he got to the third floor no one was in the corridors,

to him it felt like a ghost town. At the end of one of the corridors he saw the man in the

top hat again, this time he took off his hat, bowed, extended his arm to the right, then

stood straight up, put his hat back on and went to the right. Wright ran all the way

down to where the man was and saw a door with the name Anna Frutherline, Wright

knocked on the door but no one answered so he opened the door and saw an empty

room with just a bed and a desk. He stepped into the room and looked around but saw

nothing out of the ordinary, when he looked at the bed he saw a little white paper

sticking out from under the mattress, when he picked it up all it said was, “She’s

coming for me”. Suddenly Nurse Peters came into the room and asked what Wright

was doing in there, trying not to sound insane he said he was looking for her and that

everyone was worried about her because they haven’t seen her in a while. She looked at

Wright cautiously and asked him to leave the room because Anna didn’t like anyone in

her room, Wright stepped out of the room then turned to Nurse Peters and asked if she

knew what the note meant, she told him that she didn’t so he started to walk towards

the stairs. As Wright was descending the stairs the man in the top hat was leaning

against the wall with his right foot against the wall and his head tilted downward, he

then looked up at Wright and said “Well my friend you’re in for one hell of a night now

aren’t you”. Wright blinked and the man was gone, all he could remember was the

man’s eyes that were white as snow while his clothes were blacker than night. He

continued to walk down the stairs, he heard a woman scream so he ran the rest of the

way only to find the man that threw a rock through Grace’s window grabbing a nurse

and yelling at her asking how his sister died. Wright grabbed the man by his arm and

wrenched it behind his back while he started to walk him out of the asylum, the man

tried to get out of if but Wright would pull his arm above his back even more; Wright

walked him all the way to the front gate and told the man that if he ever came back that

he would arrest him for interfering with an investigation. Wright pushed the man

passed the gates then closed them, as Wright closed the gates the top hat man appeared

behind Grace’s brother but this time he was smiling and walked towards the man to />
whisper something to him, then the man stood straight up and walked away into the

night. The top hat man then looked at Wright and went from a smile to a straight face,

winked, then vanished into thin air. Wright started to walk towards the front of the

asylum, about 20 feet away from the gate he stopped and turned to look at the gate

again only to see pitch black darkness. Wright turned back around, shook his head, and

continued to the front door when he got there the nurse was crying and shaking,

empathetically, Wright placed his hand on her shoulder and told her everything would

be alright and that the man won’t bother her anymore. Wright then asked where Doctor

White was, to which one of the nurses said he was in his office so Wright headed that

way to ask the Doctor a few questions about Grace and Emily and maybe even about

Nurse Peters. When Wright got to White’s office he heard a woman’s voice telling him

to get rid of the detective or their whole operation would be found out, to which White

responded, “There’s nothing I can do we’ll just need to make sure he doesn’t go into the

locked room. Let’s get one thing straight it’s your operation not our, I just take the

money.” Wright then knocked on the door and heard some scuffling, the doctor told

him to come in and when he entered the doctor was the only one in the room, looking a

little puzzled Wright asked the doctor if anyone else was in the room, to which the

doctor said no that he’s been alone for the past 20 minutes. Wright started to question

the Doctor about Emily and Grace, when suddenly he looked outside and on the tree by

  the window he saw someone that looked like Doctor White hanging from a noose;

when the Doctor realized that Wright was looking out the window, he turned around to

momentarily block Wright's view then turned back around and looked at Wright and

asked, “Did you see something out there?”, looking back through the window again

and now not seeing anything there Wright told the doctor that it was nothing. Wright

and the doctor continued to talk for about an hour with no head headway, Wright

decided that he would be better off talking to the people that had the most interaction

with Emily and Grace. Wright left the office and headed to the stairs to go to the third

floor and start asking the nurses about Emily and Grace. When he got to the third floor

he stopped one of the nurses and asked her who was most familiar with Emily around

here, the nurse replied that Mary Rose was always seen with Emily.

Wright started to walk and look around the corridors trying to find Mary’s room, it

was the room at the end of the second corridor; room number 320 Wright knocked on

the door and heard no answer, he knocked again then heard an old raspy sounding

voice say to come in. When he opened the door he saw pure blue eyes about 3 feet off

the ground staring at him then bolt across the room. When he turned on the lights, there

was no one there and it looked like no one has been there for quite a while. Wright

looked to see if he could find anything that had to do with Mary Rose and Emily or

even her and Grace, even though everyone kept saying that she mainly kept to herself.

As Wright scanned the room he noticed a lot of drawings that had a snake like figure

and a wolf/humanoid figure, he didn’t know what it meant and wasn’t sure if he

wanted to find out. He saw a closet and when he opened it he saw approximately 5 to

10 elegant gowns that looked very expensive and brand new, when he took a step closer

to get a better look he felt one of the floorboards shift, Wright knelt down and picked

up the board to reveal a shoe box, he picked it up and walked over to the desk in the

room. When he opened the box he discovered it was filled with pictures of a small girl

that he thought might have been Mary when she was younger, but in every picture she

seemed to be looking off to the side at something. Wright picked up the last picture in

the box and noticed it was Mary and her family in front of a wooded area and right

behind the tree line he could see a man in a black trench coat and a top hat smiling.

Wright stared at the picture for a little while, then thought about the man in the top hat

that tipped his hat, then vanished. Wright suddenly heard a knock at the window that

startled him, but when he looked outside a tree branch came swinging at him and broke

the window hitting him in the face; he check to see it he was bleeding but luckily for

him he wasn't, still in awe he then looked outside again only to see that the tree

outside wasn’t moving anymore so he thought it might have been just a gust of wind

that had passed through. Wright exited the room and stood there for a moment

reminiscing about the picture that had the man in the top hat, however, he shrugged it

off and thought about where he should look next with only one place coming to mind,

  Grace’s room.

  Chapter 02

  Writing on the wall

Detective Wright was trying to figure a way out of having to go to Grace’s room but he

knew there was no way around it. He walked slowly down the hall, to kill as much time

as possible, but he had a feeling something bad was about to happen if he went into

that room again but he needed to figure out what happened to Grace. When he got to

room 313 he steered at it for a while and began to read Grace’s name on the door, as if

that would bring her back to life. He then touched the door knob, it was so cold he

quickly withdrew his hand, he then steered at the door knob wondering what just

happened. Wright tapped the door knob with his finger to see if it was still cold but it

felt normal, it wasn’t even chilly. Wright grabbed the door knob again quickly turning

it, when he opened the door he heard a howling sound exclaim, “GET OUT”, he quickly

opened the door to see what made the noise but all he saw was the same messy room.

When he stepped into the room he started to fall but wasn’t hitting the ground, he

  simply kept falling into nothingness.

As Wright was falling he couldn’t help but think of where his life went, he began

thinking why he became a police officer in the first place. He pictured his wife who died

when someone robbed his house and shot her while she was carrying their 3 month old

child. He then thought about his father and how he would beat his mother when he

came home drunk and how his father would punch him when he didn’t do what he

was supposed to. He then started to think about the creatures that he saw earlier that

day, then he felt something jump on the top of his head. When he looked up he saw the

fangs but no eyes, then the mouth opened up and came straight for him; he put his

hands up to try and stop it but the bite never came, after a while he put his hands down

and realized he was in Grace’s room again. He looked around and when he looked

down at his feet he saw a black feather, when he picked it up it was heavy like a rock,

he then heard something say “You’re going to die tomorrow.” After hearing this,

Wright had a perfect image in his head of Grace hanging with a feather in her mouth.

Wright put the feather down and saw a drawing of a man in a black feathery coat

stabbing another man in the back. At that moment he felt something behind him, he
<
br />   turned quickly and came face to face with a man with dead eyes and pale skin. Wright

jumped back and the man was gone, he looked around the room in search of the pale

man but there was no sign of anyone. Wright took the picture and put it in his pocket,

for some reason he felt that he might need it and if anything it’s proof that Grace had

drawings in her room. Wright couldn’t shake the feeling someone or something was

watching him waiting for him to move so it could pounce when he wasn’t paying

attention. He kept looking around but couldn’t see anything, then he looked up at the

left corner of the room and saw two eyes looking at him, then vanish. The eyes this time

looked like human eyes but they were black. Just like the cat eyes, it felt like they could

see straight into his soul and the only thing he could think of was all he needed now

was to see the bird eyes. As soon as the thought crossed his mind it felt like a bird

landed on his head then cawed. When Wright shook his head the feeling of the bird was

still there, so he reached to grab it but felt nothing.

Wright looked around the room for a bird or something that could have landed on his

head but there was nothing there, then a solitary sheet of paper with writing fell from

his head, when he looked at it, it said “Look at the wall.” When Wright looked at the

wall writing started to appear in blood and read “When I kill you, you won’t go to

heaven, you won’t go to hell, you’ll go nowhere. Your life will just end with nothing.”

Then it disappeared and suddenly Wright was in a black void again, not knowing

which way was which and not knowing what to do to get back to the real world. He

heard a small child laugh then cry then laugh again and he couldn’t tell where it was

coming from, it sounded like it was coming from all around him all at once. Wright

tried to run but he wasn’t moving anywhere he was just running in place, that’s when

he saw something coming at him. He turned around and tried running again but it kept

getting closer and closer and no matter what Wright did, it kept getting closer. After a

minute of running Wright fell down into a hole, when he looked up there was a bird
