would clear up only to show it again. The voice said “I know everything that happened

and this time shall be no different than the last.” Wright yelled out “What do you mean

this time? They’re already dead they can’t die again” when he saw his wife as beautiful

as she was the day she was still alive. Wright wrapped his arms around her and started

to cry as he could hear her say that everything was alright as she embraced him, to then

he heard a gunshot; when looked at her she had a wound in her head and started to fall

backwards. Before she hit the floor Wright thought was right there, she vanished. From

the laughter, he then heard “I can make her die a thousand times if I want to.”

Suddenly it felt like the void was closing in on him, he tried to run but wasn’t getting

anywhere, he felt the void over take his body as he closed his eyes and thought this is

the end. When he opened his eyes he was in Grace’s room, as if nothing happened he

saw that Nurse Peters was standing with her back towards the room.

  Chapter 03

  Prodigal Son’s Return

Wright stared at the room it was clean no drawings, no writing on the walls, just clean

as if he had imagined everything before. He looked at the window and saw what he

thought was a blue bird, or at least was at one point in time, it was looking at Wright

then it started to sing but not a beautiful song, one that sounded distant and eerie. As

the song continued its eyes began to glow red with the song growing deeper and darker

with every note. Wright felt the urge to walk towards it but before he knew it he was

stepping closer to it until it flew away, Wright shook his head to get the uneasy feeling

out of his mind. He then looked at the floor, it was spotless not even a crumb was on

the floor, it was as if Grace was a neat freak and loved having everything in a certain

place at all times. Wright turned around a saw Nurse Peters standing in the doorway,

when Wright asked her what time it was she told him it was 5:30pm. This time he

wasn’t gone for hours, only a few minutes but it felt like years. Wright saw a night

stand by Grace’s bed, he walked over to it and opened the drawer to find a note folded.

Wright picked up the note, it read “I need to help Detective Wright something bad is

going to happen, I just know. They think I’m crazy but I’m not, everyone is in danger

they’re going to kill everyone here, they need to be stopped.” Wright put the note in his

pocket and turned towards Nurse Peters, he asked her what Grace would do when she

locked herself in her room. Nurse Peters told him that Grace would make bracelets out

of anything she could find, it calmed her down.

Nurse Peters showed the bracelet to Wright, it was made of different types of string and

had the word “Hope” on it. When Wright asked Nurse Peters what that meant, she said

it’s the crow that Death has. Wright looked at Nurse Peters and asked her why would

Grace put the crows name on the bracelet, Nurse Peters said she didn’t know and

simply walked away. Wright was shocked that the nurse would just walk away like

that but he just shook it off and exited the room to head towards Doctor White’s office,

to speak to him about Grace a little more and maybe get some answers about what’s

going on. As Wright was walking down the hall he heard someone scream, when he ran

to where he thought it came from it was the woman from room 323, the one that tried to

choke him, lying dead on the floor with what looked like large teeth marks on her neck

then he heard someone yell “Vampires are real now there’s proof”. Then the woman

ran screaming down the hall yelling about vampires. Wright heard a door slam shut

then someone say “We need garlic and quick, they hate garlic right.” Wright turned his

attention to the body and saw that she had what looked like fur in her hands; when he

went to pick it up he smelled something burning. Wright looked around and saw that

nothing was on fire but then when he turned back to the body the hand the fur was in

was gone. Out of nowhere he heard Doctor White yelling about what was going on in

  the asylum today.

Doctor White looked upset, tired, and ready to go home; not wanting to deal with the

problems at the asylum. Doctor White looked at Wright and asked him what was going

on but Wright had no answer for him, just a confused look on his face; then he pulled

the note from his pocket and showed it to the Doctor. Doctor White read the note, when

he finished he looked at Wright and asked if he knew Grace, Wright told him that he

had no idea who Grace was before today. Doctor White then asked him “How did

Grace know your name then?” ”None of this makes any sense.”. Wright told Doctor

White that something strange was going on and that he had never seen anything like

this but that he would like permission to stay there all night to try and find out what

was going on. Doctor White told him that he would appreciate all the help he could get

and that all the staff members will help him in any way that they can. Wright told

Doctor White he needed everything on file about Grace so he could review everything

in hopes to find anything that might be helpful to him in the investigation, and that

they need to go to the west gate due to all the stolen medication in the bag being located

there. Doctor White looked at one of the nurses as she ran to the stairs so she could get

the bag. Doctor White then looked at another nurse as she ran to his office to get the file

  on Grace.

Wright knew he was probably going to die tomorrow but he was ok with that as long as

he stopped the murders that were going on, he could die happy. The nurse that went to

the doctor’s office brought him the file, he told her thank you and asked for a cup of

coffee and informed her that he was going to the room that looked like a study on the

first floor. When Wright got there he sat in one of the comfy chairs and rubbed his eyes

knowing that it was going to be a long night. He opened up the file to find in bold red

letter “dangerous approach with caution” written across the front. Wright turned the

page and started to read what her mental illness was, the one that stuck out was

Psychotic disorders which would explain when she was so aggressive towards people

sometimes. Nothing explained how she knew his name, she didn’t like to read so she

couldn’t have read about him, she spent most of her time in her room so she couldn’t

have seen him on the television. Nothing would explain how she knew who he was, he

was not supposed to be at the asylum, it was his day off so he was simply doing a

favor for a friend. Maybe someone told her about him that has to be it but how did she

know he would be there it doesn’t make any sense at all. Maybe it was a lucky guess

but Wright had to know for sure and the only way was to ask Grace, but she was dead.

Wright then thought about Death’s bird the crow named Hope, maybe if he could find a

way to get Hope to bring her back even for a little while he could ask her. Wright

thought he was going crazy having a thought like that, then he remembered that Nurse

Peters had a bracelet with Hopes name one it maybe that could work. Wright put the

file down then headed for the fourth floor to find Nurse P
eters to try to get that bracelet.

Wright found Nurse Peters in room 301 tending to a patient so he waited until after she

was done, when she left the room he asked her for the bracelet because he wanted to see

something on it. She gave it to him and asked for him to return it when he was done

with it, he promised he would then ask her where Grace’s body was. Nurse Peters

thought for a moment then told him it was in the basement in the cooler so it wouldn’t

stink up the place then she walked out heading to the east hall. Wright then headed

toward the stairs so he could get to the basement. When he started heading downstairs

he saw blood on the wall, when he touched it he heard a voice say “It’s not vampires

Johnny it was me” then he heard someone laughing. The blood disappeared just as

quickly as it appeared leaving no trace that it was there.

Wright got down to the basement door and when he tried to open it the door was

locked. Wright wish Nurse Peters would have told him that, that way he could have

gone to Doctor White’s office and asked him for a key to the basement. Wright started

to head up to the first floor when he saw Doctor White coming down so he asked him if

he could get in to examine Grace’s body one more time. Doctor White looked at him

confused but agreed to let him look at the body one more time, as long as he didn’t do

anything to disrespect the remains of the body. Wright agreed and was let in, he went

straight to the cooler where Grace’s body was to try and have Hope the crow bring her

back for a little bit. Wright didn’t know how to get Hope to bring back Grace’s soul but

the first thing he tried was putting the bracelet on top of her, but nothing happened.

Wright thought he was an idiot for trying to bring the dead back to life but he needed

to, that way he could ask her how she knew his name and how she knew he would

come. He thought maybe if he put it around her wrist that would do something, when

he did, he heard a bird caw.

Wright looked around and saw nothing so he thought to himself, wow it really worked,

then a crow with black silky feathers landed on Grace’s body. The crow then started to

laugh and flew away, all Wright could think about was how gullible he was the dead

can’t come back to life, but then again after today anything is possible. He took the

bracelet off Grace’s wrist and started to leave the room, before exiting as a last hope he

asked Grace’s dead body, “How did you know?”. Wright was disappointed with

himself for thinking like that, after all he’s not one of these crazy people, is he? Wright

decided to walk up to the first floor and head outside. When Wright got outside he

found himself walking to the west gate, when he got the gate he saw two birds perched

on the gate, they were shoulder length apart. When he got closer he saw that they were

crows. The crow on the left flew over Wright and scratched him with one of their talons,

Wright began to bleed, however, it was not normal red blood the blood coming from

the scratch was blue. All of a sudden Wright couldn’t breathe or move, he was lying flat

on a table. He felt pierce his arm followed by a burning sensation, but not like a fire

burning more like a cold burning sensation. His eyes started to close and everything

got cold, he tried to move but nothing happened not even his head would move. Wright

suddenly opened his eyes and was back in front of the west gate with the crow on the

right side. The crow flew at him, landing on his right shoulder and started to peck at his

head, as the crow did so Wright started to see Grace but she was alive in her room. In

the room, a crow had a picture and a piece of paper with something written on it but it

was too blurry for Wright to read, it was the same with the picture but Wright saw her

read it, then put in under her mattress. The crow flew off Wright’s shoulder, then he

was back at the west gate. Wight looked down and saw a shiny stone, he picked it up to

examine it, it felt heavy and warm for some reason it was a small stone and a cool night

there was no reason for it to be warm. Wright turned around and started to head

towards the asylum, when he looked up he saw two birds fighting or playing in the

moonlight. It was 6:20pm, some of the nurses were heading home so he stopped one

nurse and asked her who was the nurse on duty tonight, she told him it was Nurse

Peters. Wright politely thanked her and headed inside towards the stairs so he could

head to the third floor and back to the one room in the whole place he wanted to go to

the least. Wright stopped at the stairwell door and turned to the right to go to the study

to get the file on Grace to look at it one more time, maybe he missed something in it.

When he got to the study the file was gone, in its place was a note that said “You

shouldn’t leave files like this alone, naughty little detective.” The words were written in

blood, all Wright could think about was that he has seen enough blood to last a lifetime

tonight. Wright turned around and saw Tony standing in the doorway, Tony asked

Wright So do you think you’re crazy yet? You don’t need to worry you’re not, I just feel

like tormenting you a little longer but maybe if you beg, I’ll kill you right now.” Wright

looked at Tony then started to walk towards him, but not in an aggressive way. When

Wright got in front of him he told Tony that he would never give him the satisfaction of

begging for death and that before the sun sets tomorrow he was going to stop Tony.

Tony stepped aside, as Wright passed him Tony whispered to him that he could try but

he will show everyone the true meaning of despair. Wight stopped and looked at Tony

and asked him “Do you remember where the first shot I hit you with landed?” Tony’s

face went from a smile to a frown, he told Wright he remembered it hit his spine and

then he was hit in the back of the head then in the lower back. “Yes it did, would you

like to know what the most satisfactory thing about shooting you was?”, Wright asked,

Tony looked at Wright in silence, to which Wright followed with “Killing you”.

Wright started to walk away when he heard Tony scream an unnatural holler, all

Wright did was smile and keep walking. When Wright got to the stairs Tony was there,

angry, he told Wright “I guess I didn’t break your spirit enough but I will I’ll make you

beg for death and I’ll make you suffer like no one has ever suffered before.” Tony

disappeared as the smile from Wright’s face faded, he then opened the door to the

stairs. Wright glanced down the stairs then at the stairs heading up as he felt something

pull him to the basement so he started walking downstairs. When he got there whatever

was pulling him down there stopped but he didn’t want to go back up until he knew

what it was that was pulling him. Wright put his hand on the door knob, it was hot.

Wright tried to open the door but it was still locked so he kicked the door open, when

he did there was fire coming from a room straight in front of him. He ran to the door

and kicked it open to see Doctor White on fire but he didn’t seem to notice it. Wright

found a bucket of water on the floor, he picked it up and tried to put out the fire but the

water wouldn’t come out, he looked in the bucket the water was in b
ut it was gone. He

then heard Doctor White say “Please save us we don’t want die please help.” Then he

turned to ash and blew away, the smell of burning flesh came in the room leaving

Wright trying not to throw up. Wright walked out of the room and found himself

walking towards the cooler where Grace was, when he got to the door he paused and

had a bad gut feeling about going in there but at the same time he knew he had to.

Wright opened up the door; there was nothing, no body, no food, nothing, not even a

trace of where the body might be. Wright stepped in the cooler to see if he could find

anything, suddenly there was a note where the body was, Wright picked it up to read it.

The note like every other note was written in blood and said “It’s too late they got me

now. They’ll get you, can you stop the massacre of the crazies.” The note then turned to

ash as the room went back to normal, minus the dead body which was still nowhere to

be found. Wright then felt like he was being watched, he looked around and saw a

black silky crow standing on a can of beans. The crow looked at Wright with curiosity

and wonder, like it was the only one who knew a secret about him and wanted to tell

someone but couldn’t. The crow flew past Wright out the big cooler door, with Wright

following it, maybe the crow would lead him somewhere where he could find some

answers. Wright followed the crow down the east hall to a room with a sign that said

“Do Not Enter” when Wright got there the crow was gone. Wright looked towards his

right and saw Tony standing there with a dog at his side smiling.

Tony started to walk towards Wright with the dog, then the dog vanished as Tony

turned into a bird and flew out an open window. Wright walked over where Tony was

and saw footprints on the floor leading away from where he was at. Wright started to

follow the footprints, but he still had the feeling he needed to see what was in that other

room. As he was walking he kept seeing Tony’s face in the wall smiling, Wright tried

his best to ignore it but he couldn’t they were everywhere. The footprints lead to a steel

door that was as big as the cooler doors, when Wright opened the doors he saw a room

full of corpses. The smell of rot was strong in the room causing Wright to turn away
